Yo Yo vs. Heather

When my niece Emily was first learning how to say my name she couldn't pronounce Heather so it came out as Hehya, which turned into Ya Ya, which turned into Yo Yo. Every niece and nephew since then along with many friends and family continue to refer to me as Yo Yo. Once when Jonathan was living in Washington and trying to be like his Dad in every way he called me Heather as he had heard his Dad refer to me as. I asked him to call me Yo Yo and he did and hasn't reverted back to Heather yet. I don't know why but I hated hearing him call me by my real name. I think it's the same reason why my Mom always shoots me a dirty look when I call her Debi and tells me to call her Mom. I've earned my title as Yo Yo not in the same way as my Mom has but to a degree I have and my family knows how dedicated I am to my nieces and nephews. Over this Christmas Kaden called me Header. I again jumped at the sound of him calling me by my real name(or a close version) and asked him to call me Yo Yo. Later he said, "You don't like to be called Header" I confirmed this and responded,"Yo Yo is a better name don't you like it better?" He agreed but then said, "Every time....every time Mommy calls you Header?" My poor nephews just want to be grown up and call me what the adults call me most of the time and I tell them to call me by a ridiculous name as Yo Yo. I feel bad doing this but when they call me one thing their whole life and then try and change it just feels wrong. What do you think? Should I shut my mouth from now on and let my nieces and nephews call me what they like?

Roommate Update

Thankfully there isn't much to say. Both of my roommates are REALLY nice and normal as far as I can tell. It's probably true that in this case if any of us were to be the weird roommate it would be me. I'm ok with that.

Roommate Obsession

I have never met either of my roommates for this coming year and I am very nervous moving about in with strangers. I've had bad luck in the past and although Becca is optimistic and says that the good news is that I have already roomed with all the crazy people at BYU so I can now look forward to living with normal people. I however feel that BYU has an endless supply of crazy people for me to have to live with. This is what I know so far about my roommates.... my landlord said that one of them is French and she has lived in the US for four years and has already graduated from LDSBC and now goes to BYU and is a seamstress. I told this to my friends boyfriend who from the small amount of info I know deduced that he knows her and he says she's a very sweet girl. I was venting to Paul about the possible catastrophe of my unknown roommates and I said...."she's French so you know what that means!" Paul looked at me confused and trying to understand what I meant by that and he responded hesitantly, "she's going to surrender to you?" I laughed for probably a good five min about that. It'll actually be fun having a French roommate since so many of my friends speak French and just make fun of my French accent so this could be good for getting rid of my Russian accent when I speak French. The other roommate is more of a question. All I know is that a guy was emailing the landlord a lot for his daughter. This could mean one of three things. 1- She's eighteen and has never found housing before so her Dad is doing it for her. No offense to eighteen year olds but I have to babysit them at work all the time I don't want to live with one. 2- She is a Daddy's girl and he does everything for her including finding her housing. 3- She can't find her own housing because she's on a mission and doesn't get back to right before so needed someone else to find housing, and I am also not so sure living with a fresh RM would be enjoyable. I'm lucky enough to have family that bring me back down from ranting on about my paranoia. They made me realize that there is no point in finding imaginary things about my roommates before I even meet them. What they don't understand is that the small amounts of info I have present hours of endless worrying I can do. I am a worrier what can I say. I'm working on it and am trying to focus on not obsessing about who my roommates might be. In fact, now that I've posted this....I will most likely be the crazy one of out the three of us!

Fanny packs, seriously? Rebuttal.....

WOW! I must defend myself from my sister Becca's slander! This is Heather I have no problem outing myself. At my job I have to have a work phone, bulky work keys and lots of other things that I hate bulging in my pants pockets. Having a fanny pack is a matter of convention and not fashion...it just happens that they ARE coming back into fashion along with many other tacky 80s icons.

25 Reasons Why Rachel is Easy to Love!

1. Rachel will still love me even if I forget to call her on her birthday and ignore her for a week.

2. Rachel rounds people together, a natural leader. She led me through the hardest time of my life and I will always love her for that.

3. Rachel is the only person who can get me to listen to country music. When I miss her I listen to Rascal Flatts and feel better.

4. Rachel doesn't treat me like I'm just a friend. She adopted me as a part of her family and treats me as she does her sisters.

5. Rachel is bold...she will tell you what she thinks no doubt about it:)

6. Don't let her bold side fool you because she isn't all attitude. She has a softness and gentle way about her that she shows to people she trusts.

7. Rachel always seems to know the exact thing I need to hear to calm me down and give me hope.

8. Sometimes it's difficult for me to believe that there was a time in Rachel's life when she wasn't firm in the gospel. Her testimony inspires me and when she talks about God all my doubt goes away. She'd make a great missionary!

9. Rachel believes in me more than anyone else I know.

10. There is only one other person I know that is more loyal than me....and that's Rachel.

11. I love that scrapbooking is important to her cuz I reap the benefits of her work.

12. This may sound odd, but I love how we shouldn't fit together. On paper we are so different, yet we both gain so much joy and strength from each other.

13. Rachel has soul. She loves to dance and really enjoy herself. If I ever looked good dancing it's because I was borrowing her moves.

14. If you are half as loving, attentive, and wonderful as a wife as you are a friend to me....then your husband will never feel alone, never doubt if he is loved, and never doubt his worth.

15. I love that Rachel isn't the same person she was 5 years ago and I'm excited to see who she'll become 5 years from now.

16. She's down to earth. Now I know she's a cutie and when she gets all dolled up she can be a down right fox, but she never acts any different.

17. Humble. That's right Rachel. She has gained some humility these past couple years.

18. Protective. Mamma Rachel can be fierce so don't mess with those she loves!

19. I love how we laugh together. She never takes herself too seriously and can laugh at any of my dumb jokes.

20. There is no one Rachel can't be friends with. Her circle of friends is literally open to all types of people.

21. If Rachel says she wants to do something you better believe she'll make it happen. Even if that means starting her college education 5 years after high school. So when she says she's going to be a wedding planner then I know it will happen.

22. Rachel's life and mine are so parallel. I don't know who is coping who but I don't care.

23. One thing Rachel and I have in common is the intensity in which we love our nieces and nephews. She dotes on them.

24. Rachel makes me safe in a world that scares me.

25. I love Rachel because she is my friend for life, my sister for eternity. I love you Rachel

Happy Birthday

Splash & Dash

My friend Cassie and I have decided to combine our strengths and do a biathlon together. BYU calls it a Splash and Dash and in the team event I will be swimming the mile and Cassie will be running the 10K. Cassie runs races all the time and is in amazing shape....I however haven't swam competitively since high school and even then I wasn't very good. It's all about getting into shape and having fun though. We decided that since she's from Caliente, NV and I'm from Puyallup, WA that we'd name our team CAl-IUPE! So far training is going pretty well even though I haven't dropped my time much I am pretty sure that it's good for my body. Wish me luck.

IT'S A RACE!

First Five

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me!

my choice. for you. this offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
2. what I create will be just for you.
3. it’ll be done this year.
4. you have no clue what it’s going to be … it may be cards, a poem, a bookmark, something yummy or a complete surprise to you (and me) … who knows? not you, that’s for sure!
5. I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.
6. most importantly, you must offer the same deal on your blog - the first 5 people to comment on your blog (or if you do not have a blog, facebook) get something made by YOU! the first 5 people to do so and leave a comment telling me they did win a FAB-U-LOUS homemade gift by me …
